Salzburg coach Marsch: “I will definitely stay here”

Red Bull Salzburg set the seventh soccer championship title in a row on Sunday, and to celebrate the day, coach Jesse Marsch made a clear commitment to stay in the city of Mozart. The American, who was most recently associated with a move to Dortmund, will also take a seat on the “Bulls” bench in the coming season.

Marsch reported about his speech after the 3-0 win over Hartberg when he told the group in the center circle that he would never forget his first title team. Substitute goalie Carlos Coronel interpreted this as a farewell hint and asked the coach if he wanted to leave the club.

“I replied ‘No’ to it. I will definitely stay here. My relationship with everyone here is something special. I get a lot of trust, especially from (managing director) Reiter and (sports director) Freund. I have no hurry to do anything new I and my family are enjoying this time here. It is not over yet, “explained Marsch.

His players celebrated the title in gray T-shirts, on which the heads of all players, the inscription “serial master” and a big sevens were to be seen, based on the seventh championship title in a row. There were dances and the wave in front of the empty north grandstand, the obligatory beer showers did not come. The evening did not end completely without barley juice. “We have a fridge full of beer, it will be empty,” Maximilian Wöber announced on “Sky”.

After the match, the team and the coaching staff went to a restaurant outside Salzburg to toast to the triumph – but without friends. In view of the coronavirus pandemic, the meeting was said to be limited to a smaller group of people.

March was ascetic at the celebration. A cyclist immediately after the end of the game will be his only alcoholic drink throughout the evening, the 46-year-old announced.
