Rudy Gobert still can’t smell right after a coronavirus infection in March

“The taste has returned, but the smell is still not 100 percent,” said Gobert in quotes published on Wednesday by the newspaper. “I can smell the smells, but not from a distance. I spoke to specialists who told me it could take up to a year. ”

Gobert told the newspaper that he still feels “strange things” but doesn’t know whether this is due to the virus’s continued effects or the time that has passed since his last game.

“I’m starting to train thoroughly,” said Gobert. “I still haven’t played five against five, but I train individually. I box, swim, run in the mountains. Today I would not say that I feel more tired than before. But I had experiences that scared me a month and a half ago. I felt like ants in my toes and wondered what it could be. There were some little things like this. ”

“There was a lot of fear,” Gobert told the French newspaper Le Parisien on Tuesday. “The NBA was waiting for a first case to end the championship. It fell on me! I became the image of the American corona virus, the domino that triggered the end of the season, but it wasn’t me who brought the virus to the United States. ”

Gobert averaged 15.1 points and a career high of 13.7 rebounds before the NBA interrupted their season. The league will replay in a protected bubble on July 30th at Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando. On Friday, the NBA finalized a 22-team schedule in which jazz would play the New Orleans Pelicans in their first game.

With coronavirus cases increasing across the country after numerous states eased their physical distance restrictions, several players decided against resuming the league in Florida. Of more than 300 players who returned to their home markets last week, 16 tested positive for the corona virus and will quarantine themselves.

Others have discussed whether resuming the game will dilute the power of the message in the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement, which has led to worldwide protests this month.

Gobert told Le Parisien that the move was “justified” and the money the players earned in these games could help.

“The situation in the United States is special,” said Gobert. “It is unusual for the police or judiciary to look at you differently depending on your skin color. There is no perfect society, but justice must be the same for everyone. ”
