Martin Ødegaard may have had a weak form since the corona break, but otherwise he has had a very strong season for Real Sociedad. He is there on loan from Real Madrid out of season, and reports from Spain have indicated that the loan agreement is being extended.
But before the success of Real Sociedad, he also had a very good season in Dutch Vitesse.
He ended up with 31 league games and nine scores for Vitesse.
He also made a good figure as a teenager in Heerenveen. It was in this club that he got the taste of high-level football.
– He has a temper
Johnny Jansen, assistant coach at Heerenveen, reveals that Ødegaard was unique. He describes his former student as a normal boy with good technical skills and good football understanding.
Jansen likes to think that the club has taught Ødegaard a thing or two while he was at the club.
– Maybe we taught him how to become a winner. I remember telling him many times that if the ball did not end up with him, he would have to learn to tell. He had to learn how to raise his voice, because it wasn’t necessarily natural for him at that time. But he learned it quickly, Jansen tells France Football.
The Norwegian midfield jewel is often seen as a humble man, with few controversies on the field. But Jansen reveals that Ødegaard has a temper.
– Whatever I told you, don’t get me wrong: He has a temper. Throughout the season, he started talking in our meetings, and I can tell you we heard the flies fly. Everyone listened to him because everyone knew he knew a lot about football, says the Heerenveen assistant.
Have faith in Ødegaard
The claim is supported by Roy Beerens, former teammate of Ødegaard in Heerenveen. He believes the Norwegian has good conditions to succeed in Real Madrid once.
– If you ignore football, Martin is also a boy who does not speak for nothing. On the other hand: When he talks, everyone listens, because we know he’s going to say something relevant. Anyway, I hope and believe that he returns to Real Madrid and that he does great things there, ”says Beerens to France Football.
Ødegaard got a total of 38 series matches with three goals for Heerenveen. He came there as an 18-year-old.
