The world of golf can never get enough of Bryson DeChambeau these days. From his incredible diet to his unusual training aids to his prodigious drives, the mad scientist of golf has been the clear star of the restart of the PGA Tour, it seems that everyone has caught Bryson’s fever. Also some of the other most important names in the game.
Last week, Rory McIlroy made it known how impressed he was with the rise in Bryson’s pop. McIlroy, who didn’t let the driver escape, said he turned to his body after a couple of DeChambeau drives during the final round at the Colonial and said, “Holy shit, it was incredible.”
On Thursday during the first round of the Traveler Championship, it was Phil Mickelson’s turn. For a man who claims to hit BOMBS himself, Phil soon realized that DeChambeau is in another world when it comes to his artillery off the field. Here’s what the microphones picked up:
Splitting the fairway with a 335-yard disc is “pretty bad”, in fact. However, we are surprised that Mickelson did not go with “hellish seeds”. And Bryson certainly seemed to be complimented on a great champion five times.
But even with DeChambeau chasing Mickelson 22 meters on the hole, it was the 50-year-old who left with a bird. A tip for you too (Hogan), Phil.
