Brisbane’s Willie Carne says that the Broncos not only have to accept the help of Kevin Walters, they also have to reconnect with more players from their golden era to bring pride back into the jersey.
Carne backed former captain Walters’ offer to help under attack coach Anthony Seibold after the Broncos collapsed into five direct NRL losses.
But the two-time winger who won the Premier League hopes Brisbane will go one step further and throw out the welcome mat for other club greats. He claims that the Broncos Powerbroker had avoided their “old boys” in the past.
Carne said he and other previous players would like to be more involved in the current squad, but claimed they were excluded.
Carne said strict health protocols could prove to be a hurdle at the moment.

But he hoped that in the future, the Broncos “old boys” who made the club a six-time powerhouse would interact more with the players and help them follow in their footsteps.
“It would be nice to be invited again and to unite the club we helped build,” Carne told AAP.
“The Broncos have never done this before. You don’t want the old boys in there – I don’t understand that. “
Meanwhile, Carne said Walters could deliver the spark that the Broncos desperately need.
Critics called on Walters to replace Seibold, who is 18 months on a five-season contract after Brisbane dropped to penultimate place in the final round after his embarrassing 30:12 loss to Gold Coast fighters.
Walters signed again as a coach in Queensland until the end of 2021 on Sunday, apparently ending speculation that he could drop Seibold.

But Walters, who was a Broncos assistant under Wayne Bennett in 2018, said he was happy to help Seibold in her need.
When asked what he could offer, Walters said to Sky Sports Radio: “Just raise the mood of the group, create a little unity.
“You have enough talent in this group to sit much higher on the table.
“You have to believe in yourself, work hard and move it in the right direction.” Seibold seems to need all the help he can get ahead of Brisbane’s round of 16 against Warriors in Gosford on Saturday.
While Brisbane’s chairman, Karl Morris, said on Sunday that they are on the road with Seibold in the long run, the competitive mentor is desperate for a win after his team hit a new low in the last round.
Brisbane was booed at half-time against the titans by their own fans.
They are now the worst disciplined team in the competition (they collect 7.7 penalties per game), have the worst score in their club history and most players – eight – have been accused by an NRL team this year were. Hinterrower Joe Ofahengaue is the latest to face a three-game ban on shoulder strain.
Their stance was also questioned when some players saw laughing and five-time opponents of titanium on the field after their shock in the last round. The great Broncos Steve Renouf admitted that Seibold’s days appeared numbered.
“The players are like Brown’s cows,” he said to AAP.
“You have no idea what’s going on. You look lost.
“Something has to change and you would think that it starts with the coach.”
