The Ottawa Senators have learned that statistics should not be trusted. With a 25% chance of being able to fish in 1st place, the Canadian club ultimately did not win the NHL lottery that was held that night. So, who will select Alexis Lafrenière?
Well the question remains open since the 1st rank went to a team which will be eliminated during the qualifying phases. This team, still unknown, had a 2.5% chance of ending up in 1st row.
This means that the fate of Alexis Lafrenière is still uncertain and that he will therefore have to wait for the second phase of the NHL lottery. Thus, the eight teams beaten before reaching the playoffs will have a 12.5% equal chance of selecting the most coveted player in a second lottery carried out after the qualifying round.
