Monument to Cherenkov installed at Troekurovsky cemetery

The unveiling of the monument to the former Spartak footballer Fedor Cherenkov took place at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow on June 28.

According to the Championship, the funds for the creation of the monument since 2017 have been collected by the association of Spartak fans Fratria.

In addition, the owner of the Moscow club Leonid Fedun allocated 9 million rubles.

Cherenkov played for Spartak from 1977 to 1990, in 1991 and 1993. He is the club’s record holder for the number of matches played – 494.

As part of the red-white Cherenkov three times became the champion of the USSR and once won the championship of Russia.

For the USSR national team, Cherenkov spent 34 matches and scored 12 goals. In 1980, he became the bronze medalist of the Olympic Games.

Cherenkov died on October 4, 2014, he was 55 years old.
