Mikel Arteta’s brazen response to Thomas Partey’s £ 50m transfer request from Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has responded to the assumptions that Arsenal could still move to Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey this summer.

Ghana’s international summer was heavily connected with a move to the Emirates this summer, with the Gunners thinking they wanted to strengthen their options in midfield.

Partey has earned the reputation of a major European midfielder during his career in Atletico, and some reports claim that Arsenal is interested in signing the 27-year-old in a £ 50 million deal.

Prior to the Gunners’ Premier League trip to Southampton, Arteta was asked to complete an agreement for Partey.

The Arsenal manager smiled and laughed, before replying with: “At the moment, it is impossible to predict just what will happen in the transfer window.

“You can see one or two clubs making this kind of offerings, but the rest is really peaceful.

“As I said, we have to evaluate the financial situation and whether we have a very narrow gap or a bigger gap to do any business.

“So I think we’ll have to wait another 4-6 weeks to see what we can do.”

Reports in Spain have said that Atletico is resigned to Partey’s resignation and is already looking to identify potential replacements.

The Gunners’ interest in the midfielder is reportedly an “open secret” with a lack of football in the Champions League that should not affect the deal.

However, Partey’s representatives previously rejected a request from the father of Atletico Madrid’s star that Arsenal is in talks over a summer hit for the midfielder.

Speaking to Richmond Entsie on the Ghana-based radio station Tru FM, his father Jacob said, “I called my son after hearing the rumors and told me that the rumors are true.

“He told me they are arguing between him and Arsenal. It all depends on the offer that Atletico is requesting.”

But JJSports, representing Partey, poured cold water on the complaint. “It’s totally untrue,” said the firm.
