Mercedes drives in the F1 season 2020 in black paint

Release date: June 29, 2020

Mercedes presented a completely black paint job for the 2020 Formula 1 season as part of a public promise to improve diversity.

This season Mercedes will drop its Silver Arrows look in favor of a completely black paint job in a statement against racism.

The team, which has the only black driver on the grid in Lewis Hamilton, announced this on social media a few days before the start of the 2020 season.

“We are presenting our new paint job for 2020,” the team tweeted.

“A promise to improve the diversity of our team and our sport, and a signal of the team’s commitment to fighting racism and discrimination in all its forms.”

Hamilton welcomed the team’s decision to change its livery to take a stand.

“It is so important that we use this moment and use it to let us know whether you are an individual, a brand or a company in order to make really significant changes when it comes to ensuring equality and inclusiveness” said the six-time world champion.

“I have personally experienced racism in my life and have seen my family and friends experience racism, and I speak from the heart when I call for change.

“When I talked to Toto about my hopes of what we could achieve as a team, I said it was so important that we agreed.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Toto and the Mercedes Board of Management for taking the time to listen, speak and truly understand my experience and passion, and to make this important statement that we are ready us to change and improve a business.

“We want to build a legacy that goes beyond sport. If we can be leaders and build more diversity in our own company, it will send such a strong message and give others the confidence to start a dialogue about how they can implement change. “
