Men’s volleyball team EC qualifiers will take place in Cyprus; ladies opponents will be received in Latvia

Initially, the qualifying tournament for each team with their group teams included one game at home and another away. On Monday, CEV published information on its website that the organization had to make adjustments to the game calendar as well as the mock format due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The new playoff format means that teams will play their sub-group qualifiers in one place in a two-tournament format. This decision is taken in order to avoid excessive travel, which is hampered by entry / exit restrictions imposed by different countries during this period.

There are seven subgroups in the men’s competition, but Latvia, Cyprus, Spain and Moldova, which play in Group D, will be the only ones to conduct their due events in Cyprus from August 30 to September 6. This is the only subgroup that will play all mutual games in one country at once.

In the other subgroups, games are scheduled for January 7-10 and 14-17 next year.

The winner of each group, as well as the five best second place winners will have the opportunity to participate in the final tournament of the European Championship, which will be hosted simultaneously by Estonia, Finland, Poland, as well as the Czech Republic.

A similar scenario awaits the Latvian women’s national team, which in subgroup F together with Slovenia, the Czech Republic, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina, will play the first tournament games in Latvia from August 26 to 28, but will already fight in Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 4-6.

In the other subgroups, the games will take place on January 7-10 and January 14-17.

The owners of the first two places of each group will qualify for the European Championship final. The final tournament is scheduled for 2021 in Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania.

It has already been reported that both women’s and men’s volleyball teams have already come together to start preparing for the European Championship qualifiers, which were originally scheduled for the end of the summer.
