Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart played with Isaiah Thomas when the NBA’s little keeper thrilled Beantown with his heart and his ability to score. He knows that IT can play ball.
Thomas remains a free agent after being relinquished by the Los Angeles Clippers in February, but Smart seemed to be giving his former teammate support via Twitter, calling Thomas the “best ever under 6” “

Thomas had already tweeted that he was the undersized GOAT on Saturday night.

The two-time NBA All-Star also returned the favor, calling Smart one of his all-time favorite teammates and praising Smart’s defensive abilities.
“If you want to win, put Marcus Smart in” one of my favorite teammates ever. The best defender of the real deal in terms of being able to protect 1-5 at any night https://t.co/RWXLi5VuBc

It remains to be seen whether Isaiah Thomas will have another opportunity before restarting the NBA.
Thomas started the year with the Washington Wizards, averaging 12.2 points and 3.7 assists in his first 40 games before being swapped and quickly given up by the Clippers.
While Thomas has been some sort of defensive responsibility throughout his career, he has also fired over 41 percent from over the arc with 4.7 attempts per game. Thomas has the ability to be a microwave player who can score off the bench.
Of course, Marcus Smart and the Celtics don’t need much help in the defense zone. Boston probably has the strongest group of guards in the league, with Jaylen Brown turning into a star in its own right.
Having said that, Smart seems to think that Thomas has a lot to offer to any investigative team. It is possible that Thomas may still take a look, especially considering the uncertainty about players who could potentially give up on rebooting.
