Lampard provides updates on Chelsea’s interest in Havertz’s “best player”

The Blues have been strongly connected in a move to the Bayer Leverkusen star, but their manager insists that an offer has not yet been made.

Frank Lampard has revealed that while considering Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz a “top player”, Chelsea has not yet made an offer for the 21-year-old.

The Blues have already agreed on a £ 47.5 million ($ 59 million) deal to sign Havertz’s international teammate, Timo Werner, with Lampard’s team now aiming to land Leverkusen’s feeling as well.

Havertz starred in the Bundesliga during the 2019-2020 campaign and his form warned the best European clubs as they attempt to sign one of the most highly rated young players in the world.

The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have all been linked to the director, who has scored six goals for Leverkusen since the German top flight return in May.

Chelsea, however, have not yet made a concrete offer for Havertz, with Lampard describing the attacker as a “best player” but telling reporters ahead of his team’s Premier League meeting with Manchester City who no offer has been submitted.

He said: “He’s obviously a great player, but continue with my answer before I don’t comment on other players from other teams. And that can’t be our goal. So, nothing to say.”

When asked if an offer had been made, he added: “No. There are no offers.”

West Londoners face Pep Guardiola’s team in what is their second Premier League game, with Chelsea beating Aston Villa 2-1 on June 21 to raise hopes of finishing in the top four.

Lampard will have nearly one full-fledged team to choose from for Thursday’s Stamford Bridge clash, while Fikayo Tomori and Callum Hudson-Odoi remain the only two first-team players unavailable.

The blues on Tuesday delivered encouraging news about the contract after it was confirmed that both Willian and Pedro would remain in the club until the end of the 2019-2020 campaign.

The Spaniard has agreed on a pre-contract with Roma, although he is willing to risk an injury and see the season on Lampard’s side, with Willian, whose long-term future remains unclear, also committing to a short-term extension .

Lampard declined to discuss the 31-year-old’s position in the club beyond the 2019-2020 season, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United having been connected with the Brazilian national team’s signature on a free transfer.

Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League standings, with five points ahead of the Red Devils, who will face Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
