Celtic has set a strong goalkeeper record lately. The Premiership champions have rejuvenated Craig Gordon and Fraser Forster.

But any route to Parkhead for Heart may depend on whether the Hoops can reach an agreement with Southampton to bring Forster back to Glasgow.

However, the experienced goalkeeper looks at the big picture and relies on early career setbacks to guide him through his career downturn.

Speaking to BBC Sport, in support of mental health awareness, he said: “The fact that I had to sit on the bench in the Premier League for 18 months will neither define nor break me.

“I remember who I am. I remember playing for my local Sunday league and trying to get into the first team from Shrewsbury Town. I learned early – you have to keep an eye on things.

“You can have great things said about yourself in football, but you have to be self-critical, analyze what you are doing and feel comfortable with it.

“Maybe from the outside people think it’s a time of panic, but from the inside it’s a time to look ahead and see all the possibilities.

“I’m young when it comes to goalkeepers. I’m still younger when it comes to the mental age of a man who just wants to go in goal and have people who hit balls on him.”

“I have no illusions that Real Madrid will break my door, take (Thibaut) Courtois out and bring me in. But there is much more of me.

“I only need someone who believes in me and I will repay that belief.”

Hart has long been a mental health attorney and worked with revered trainer Jamie Edwards after he was temporarily released from Manchester City in 2013.

And he believes that he can help the next generation with words of wisdom that will keep them in order during their own careers

He added: “Mental health has two sides. There are deep, dark depths or, as we speak, the first steps to go the wrong way.

“There is also the really positive side that is able to turn a situation upside down and see the positive side of a cup in full.

“You can look at me from the outside, the position I am in and the heights I have been in, and think that things are not going well, but that is not the case.

“I feel good. I come to the games that I want to play even when I’m not on the sheet because it’s a positive mental attitude. I’ve worked on that for years.

“I want to pass it on. If I met a couple under the age of 12, I would be wondering when I saved a Messi penalty or what it was like to play for England. Now all they care about is how you play with deal with one. ” How do I deal with someone who mocks you behind the gate?

“Your attitude as a child shouldn’t be like that. That’s why I got involved and that’s why I talked about it.”
