In the women’s team of the Italian national team in downhill skiing, three cases of coronavirus infection appeared during the preparatory camp on the Stelvio Glacier. According to representatives of the Italian Winter Sports Federation, two coaches and one skier had positive tests, and did not publish their names.
One of the coaches was hospitalized with a fever, the other two infected had no symptoms, but had to be quarantined. The team for the World Cup ended the training camp and traveled home, other national team selections are still being prepared.
The elite team includes the holder of the crystal globe for the overall championship in the World Cup, Federica Brignone, whose mother suffered covid-19 at the turn of March and April and spent several days in hospital with serious breathing difficulties. Sofia Goggia, the reigning Olympic congress winner, also appears in the selection.
The Italian ski association has agreed with the operator of the resort on the Stelvio pass for the exclusive use so that the representatives can start safe training there once the measures against the spread of coronavirus have been relaxed. The association booked the entire hotel and negotiated that the cable cars would be accessible only to members of the national team.
