Servette is in mourning. Ilija Petkovic died in Belgrade at the age of 74. The coach led the Geneva club to the title of Swiss champion in 1994.
Former Yugoslavian international, with whom he participated in the 1974 World Cup in West Germany, Petkovic has spent his entire career at OFK Belgrade, apart from a three-season interlude with the French club Troyes .
He then entered a long coaching career. First in his club in the Serbian capital, then in Servette where he spent two years from March 1993 to March 1995. Petkovic then played globetrotters and worked notably in Japan, Greece, China, South Korea and Qatar. He also worked as Serbia coach from 2003 to 2006.
Weakened by an ulcer, the Serb died after being infected with Covid-19.
