Defense players are worried about injuries on the last day of the 2019/20 season. Timo Letschert and Tim Leibold could leave the club after the season. The most important news and rumors about Hamburger SV can be found here.
Defense problems plague HSV
On the last day of the season, HSV coach Dieter Hecking has to rebuild his defense. Both Timo Letschert and Jordan Beyer are missing in the duel against SV Sandhausen (today at 3:30 p.m. in LIVETICKER). Both were last in the 1: 2 defeat against 1. FC Heidenheim in the newly formed triple chain in the starting XI.
Beyer picked up his fifth yellow card and is missing a block. Letschert, on the other hand, cannot participate due to injury. The 27-year-old contracted an inner ligament injury on his knee during training.
In addition, Ewerton is not yet available. “He went through the training but still has neck problems,” said Hecking. The Brazilian is unlikely to play. Gideon Jung should therefore act alongside Rick van Drongelen in central defense.
HSV – SV Sandhausen: The expected lineups:
- HSV: Pollersbeck – Gyamerah, Jung, van Drongelen, Leibold – Fein – Hunt, Kinsombi – Harnik, Pohjanpalo, Kittel.
- SV Sandhausen: Fraisl – Diekmeier, Zhirov, Kister, Leave, Paqarada – Linsmayer, Taffertshofer – Biada – Scheu, Behrens.
HSV: This is how Hamburger SV comes into the relegation against Werder Bremen
Before the last matchday of the season, HSV is only fourth in the table and therefore relies on Arminia Bielefeld’s support. The already established champions receive the third-placed 1. FC Heidenheim today.
If Heidenheim does not win against Bielefeld and HSV scores three points, the Hamburg team qualify for the relegation against Werder Bremen.
A draw could even be enough for HSV if Heidenheim loses in Bielefeld. Then, in the event of a tie, the better goal difference would be the decisive factor for the red pants.

HSV: Letschert and Leibold before leaving?
HSV could lose two regulars after the season. The two defenders Timo Letschert and Tim Leibold are about to say goodbye according to media reports.
At Letschert, the HSV officials hold an option to keep the central defender for two more years. If you miss the Bundesliga promotion, according to the Moped however, the chances of staying there are slim.
Leibold, however, is from the Stuttgart News associated with a move to VfB Stuttgart. The Swabian by birth could very well imagine a transfer back home. For him too, it probably depends on the club’s sporting performance.
Should HSV complete another season in the 2nd league, the best preparer in the league (18 assists) would probably not be tenable, although Leibold is still under contract with the Hanseatic League until 2023.
