American Dustin Johnson confirmed his consistency at the highest level on Sunday by winning the Travelers Championships at Cromwell, which counts for the North American Golf Circuit (PGA).

With this victory, the former 36-year-old world number one gains access to the very closed golf club, having won at least one tournament over 13 consecutive PGA Tour seasons.

“I am proud to continue my streak, and I want to extend it, but it has been a long time since I had won. I hope that the next victory will not be long in coming,” said Johnson, who hadn’t most won a tournament since February 2019.

At Cromwell, he took advantage of the collapse of Brendon Todd, leading at the start of the fourth round before making a 75, five shots over the par, mainly because of a triple bogey at the 12th hole.

Johnson, who started badly, caught up on Saturday with a brilliant 61, and finished the tournament with a total of 261 (69-64-61-67).

Irregular on the last lap, with six birdies all the same, he remained under the threat of Kevin Streelman, who did not manage to catch him by missing opportunities for birdies on the last five holes.

World number one, Northern Irishman Rory McIllroy, finished with a total of 267, tied for 11th with eight other players.
