Gabriel Martinelli had a strong first season in the Premier League
Arsenal have confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli will miss the rest of the season after a knee injury surgery.
The nineteen year old had enjoyed an impressive first season in England after joining the Gunners of Ituano, who play in the lower leagues of Brazilian football.

It was announced on Tuesday that an injury on the training ground had excluded Martinelli from Thursday’s Premier League win in Southampton, but the club said they had to face an extended period on the sidelines.
As part of their team’s news update, they described Martinelli’s injury as: “Left knee. Injury sustained during training on June 21. Arthroscopic procedure successfully performed to repair a left knee cartilage injury. It will not be available for the current 2019/20 game schedule. “

Martinelli has scored 10 goals this season for Arsenal – only Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has scored more – and it turned out to be a rare bright spark during an inconsistent campaign for the Gunners, which saw Unai Emery fired as a coach and replaced by Mikel Arteta.
While Martinelli will miss the FA Cup quarter-final clash at Sheffield United, his Brazilian colleague David Luiz is available for selection after serving two games for his red card in defeat at Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Cedric Soares could make his Arsenal debut after recovering from a facial injury. The 29-year-old made his loan transfer from Southampton permanent on Tuesday despite not showing up for Arsenal since he made the initial switch in January.
