The sad story of former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andrew Toles took an unfortunate turn this week after Toles fell asleep behind a Florida airport.
Toles was arrested and jailed for refusing departure requests.
According to the Miami Herald, Toles was found sleeping behind the Key West airport with nothing but a black book bag. In his arrest report, the police cited his address as “the streets of Key West.”
From the herald:
The police said they gave Toles several ways to leave the area without being arrested, but he would not go away, deputy Tomas Venegas wrote.
On Friday, Toles stayed at the Stock Island Detention Center for a $ 500 bond.
He has scheduled a July 2 trial before District Judge Peary Fowler.

28-year-old Toles has struggled publicly with the demons of depression and fear.
Toles only played for the Dodgers in 2018 and is currently on the restricted list. He failed to report due to an unspecified personal problem with spring training in 2019.
According to a profile from The Athletic that year, Toles then spent time in a psychiatric treatment center.
In the 2016 playoffs, Toles hit .364 and scored six runs for the Dodgers. But he missed most of 2017 because of a torn ACL. A NBC Los Angeles report earlier this year recorded Toles’ professional life and struggles at the time.
The fans went to Twitter to ask the Dodgers to reach and help the former fan favorite.
Andrew Toles tore up his ACL and tried to save a Julio Urias in 2017 with no problems. I know some people don’t want to be helped, and I obviously don’t know everything that this is about, but the Dodgers have to offer THE WORLD for support. Give him a job, an apartment, and advice.

My thoughts are definitely with Andrew Toles. Not my job to tell him what he needs, but it sounds like he needs help, be it emotional, financial or whatever. Hoping the Dodgers & Baseball community can get in touch. Nobody should have to fight alone. pic.twitter.com/kyksZqH1mF

So I want to remember our buddy Andrew Toles, a very friendly and warm man. Posted and signed about 12 other people’s things.
