Espanyol dismisses Abelardo – Diari de Girona

Espanyol has decided cease Abelardo as first team coach. The white-and-blue entity has made it public through a statement, attributing the decision to the “sporting performance of the first team and with the clear will to save the category of white-and-blue team in the League.” The other members of the technical staff, Tomás Hervás and Iñaki Tejada, have also been dismissed.

Francisco Joaquín Pérez Rufete, current Sports Director of Espanyol, will be on the team’s side temporarily until the end of the season. Rufete will lead his first training session this afternoon, at 6, to prepare for the match against the leader, Real Madrid, tomorrow at 10.

Abelardo has posted a few words of thanks to the Perica fans through social media.

Abelardo, who took over the management of the team in December 2019, is the third white-and-blue coach to be sacked since the start of the season, after David Gallego and Pablo Machín. Espanyol is leather, with 24 points, 8 points behind Eibar, which marks permanence.
