Dordrecht is looking for a new partner: ‘Cooperation with Feyenoord a very wrong choice’

Martin van Geel decided some time ago that Feyenoord would not participate in the football pyramid. The inflow of Jong Feyenoord into the Eerste Divisie had no added value for the then technical director for several reasons. Despite the later insistence of trainer Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Van Geel remained firm. As of the coming season, Feyenoord will join the football pyramid.

In a candid interview with Rijnmond tells former technical manager Marco Boogers of FC Dordrecht how Van Geel was looking for an alternative to the football pyramid at the time: a collaboration with FC Dordrecht. The collaboration between Feyenoord and Excelsior had ended when Boogers in de Kuip was allowed to come to an audience.

Boogers, who did not fall for his mouth, was surprised at Feyenoord’s arrogant attitude: ‘I also spoke to Martin van Geel at the time. He said, “We are going to do this and you are doing that.” I replied, “The coffee was nice, Martin. We keep in touch eh … ”. However, a collaboration was not out of the question, Boogers left FC Dordrecht and suddenly there was collaboration between the Rotterdammers and the people of Dordrecht.

According to Boogers, this was the result of the Feyenoord heart of the new manager at FC Dordrecht: ‘I was gone for one day and they had a collaboration with Feyenoord. A very wrong choice. But Hans (ed. De Zeeuw) wanted so badly. He sleeps in a Feyenoord pajama. I dare to record that in black and white. A very bad quality. ‘

De Zeeuw does not deny that he is very fond of Feyenoord, but states that the choice for the collaboration was entirely on sporting grounds: ‘It is true that I am a great Feyenoord follower, but when we play against each other in the cup I really cheer for FC Dordrecht. And that sporting collaboration with Feyenoord was only because we would otherwise be unable to support it financially. ‘ Next week will be according to Rijnmond announced that FC Dordrecht will cooperate with a new Eredivisie club.
