Cam Newton agrees to a one-year contract with the patriots

Cam Newton has the option to become the heir to Tom Brady, who is reported to have agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots on Sunday after remaining (somehow) in the free agent market for months. Newton will eventually have to compete for the job with Jarrett Stidham, but the $ 7.5 million maximum incentive deal shows he’s in line for the starting job.
Brady, who won six Super Bowls with the Patriots, responded to Newton joining his former team on Instagram. It’s the first time since Drew Bledsoe in 2001 that a non-Brady quarterback started the season as a Patriots starter (regardless of the four games Brady had suspended in 2016 when Jimmy Garoppolo opened the year) .
It’s not much, but Brady has indicated that Under Armor supports him and Newton both. Newton has been with the Under Armor brand since his 2011 rookie season when they signed him for the biggest deal a new NFL rookie had received at that time. Brady signed with Under Armor in 2010, which included a financial stake in the company.
Of the most influential NFL athletes on social media supporting Under Armor, Brady is the NFL leader and Newton fourth. Only Anquan Boldin and Julio Jones are ahead of Newton.
Brady and Newton only faced each other twice in their careers, with Newton winning both meetings. The last time the quarterbacks fought each other was a 33-30 Carolina Panthers win in 2017 when Newton led Carolina on a 46-yard 10-game trip that ended after a time to a 48-yard field- Goal led by Graham Gano.
Newton and Brady will only face each other this season in Super Bowl LV (of all places in Tampa). If Newton stays in New England after this season, he will meet Brady in Foxborough in 2021.
