Cam Newton accepts one year agreement with Patriots

Cam Newton has the potential to become the apparent heir to Tom Brady, who would have accepted a year-long deal with the New England Patriots on Sunday after months of (sort of) staying on the free agent market. Newton will eventually have to compete with Jarrett Stidham for the position, but the incentive deal worth up to $ 7.5 million demonstrates that he is online for the starting position.
Brady, who won six Super Bowls with the Patriots, reacted when Newton joined his former team on Instagram. It will be the first time that an unnamed quarterback Brady has entered the season as a Patriots starter since Drew Bledsoe in 2001 (not counting the four games that Brady was suspended in 2016, when Jimmy Garoppolo opened the ‘year).
It’s not much, but Brady pointed out that he and Newton were both supported by Under Armor. Newton has been with the Under Armor brand since his rookie season in 2011, when they signed him for the biggest contract awarded to an NFL rookie at the time. Brady signed with Under Armor in 2010, which included a financial stake in the company.

Brady and Newton have only faced each other twice in their careers, Newton winning both games.
