Borussia Dortmund is experiencing the Corona crisis financially clearly. The runner-up expects a massive shortfall of 45 million euros for the 2019/20 financial year. This emerges from an ad hoc announcement published on Monday.

“The expected figures are to be seen as a direct impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected all Borussia Dortmund income and revenue fields,” the statement said. In particular, the lack of ticket revenue, but also reductions in advertising and VIP hospitality revenues and the slump in the transfer market had a clear impact.

BVB sees itself prepared for the future despite the loss

Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA had already withdrawn its forecast for the financial year from the market in March and later announced that no positive result could be expected. BVB still sees itself well prepared for the future. “Thanks to the good earnings situation in the past few financial years” and “existing group equity of around 355 million euros as of June 30, 2019”, Borussia Dortmund is prepared to bear the expected losses.

The BVB share had recently recovered somewhat, on Monday the paper was traded for EUR 6.05. As of February 21, the share was still at € 9.39, but had dropped to € 4.59 in the middle of the crisis.
