Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns could drive to the AFL hub in Sydney

The Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns could be forced into a mini-hub in Sydney as the Queensland government introduced stringent quarantine restrictions in the fight against COVID-19.

After experiencing Victoria Coronavirus cases, all Queensland teams playing in Melbourne must be quarantined for 14 days when they return home.

The Lions will play against Collingwood in the MCG on Friday.

Instead of returning to Brisbane after the game and spending two weeks in isolation, there is speculation that the Lions could now fly to NSW to meet their quarantine time and play against the Sydney Swans and GWS Giants in consecutive weeks.

The suns are scheduled to fly to Victoria this week to meet Geelong on Saturday evening.

They will also play Hawthorn in Melbourne the following weekend.

If this game happens, which is not yet certain, the Suns can also travel to Sydney to complete their two-week quarantine period and play games against the Swans and Giants.

“The suns may not return to Queensland,” said Gillon McLachlan, AFL CEO.

“You could go other ways. This is clearly stuck to, and it is a piece of advice for the coming days as to how they will return to Queensland, whether they have quarantined again, or if they have taken a different route. “

Meanwhile, the Lions are sweating at Captain Dayne Zorko’s fitness after injuring himself at the weekend’s 37-point home win against Adelaide on the calf.

Zorko will have scans today and will surely miss at least Brisbane’s clash with Port Adelaide at Gabba on Saturday night.
