AFL Round 4: Adelaide Crows by Brisbane Lions completely exceeded

The Adelaide Crows are currently sitting at the bottom of the AFL ladder, and the struggling club seems destined to get the wooden spoon after another overwhelming feat.

The Crows scored just two goals in the first half of their battle against the Brisbane Lions in Gabba, and finally recorded their fourth consecutive loss this season.

Adelaide is fortunate that the Lions had no more chances to score – Brisbane only scored ten goals in 33 shots on goal.

In comparison, the crows in the first half had only nine in the 1950s.

Although Adelaide has shown a significant improvement in his defensive game in recent weeks, the Lions outperformed them on Sunday.

Lachie Neale (0.5) and Hugh McLuggage (1.5) made 10 gap between them to equal an inside 50 number that was more than twice their rival’s.

Brisbane’s captain Dayne Zorko was excluded at half-time due to a calf injury and ended his match. Zorko missed the West Coast loss last week with a similar injury and his return was short-lived. He limped off to buckle his calf at half-time.

Rival skipper Rory Sloane wanted to roll his ankle, but ended the game while second player Will Hamill was a concussion victim and aspiring striker Darcy Fogarty scratched himself late after injuring his shoulder during training.

During the main break, Brisbane led 7.10 (52) to 2.0 (12). Crows star Taylor Walker, however, scored two consecutive goals after the main break to maintain Adelaide’s hopes of a comeback.

The crows would put two more goals away in the third quarter and reduce the deficit to just 18 points.

“This is another Adelaide team after half time” Fox Footy Commentator Dwayne Russell said.

Despite the brave struggle, the Lions showed their class in the last 16 minutes and scored three more goals to secure their third consecutive AFL victory. Brisbane’s little striker, Charlie Cameron, also ran an early contender for the brand of the year.

When the last siren sounded, the rating was Lions 10.23 (83) to Crows 7.4 (46). The 8312 crowd got up and applauded the hosts after the sweeping victory.

Record hiding places were followed by record lows for Adelaide, but all Brisbane coach Chris Fagan sees is a team full of class with one point to prove.

The Crows narrowly avoided their lowest AFL when drubbing on the Gold Coast last weekend after suffering the biggest showdown loss a week earlier. Former captain and striker Taylor Walker narrowly avoided the ax to face the Lions, but Australian team-mate Matt Crouch wasn’t so lucky when coach Matthew Nicks looked for an answer from his side.

The winless crows had a good chance of opening their accounts this weekend, but Fagan was careful with their seasoned squad.

“GWS had problems, didn’t it? And they came out and beat Collingwood, ”said Fagan on Saturday.

“I look at Adelaide and see a team full of purely Australian and best and fairest winners.

“These guys are well-trained players, they obviously have a bit of a problem with their shape, but we expect to play against a really strong, dedicated Adelaide team.”

Sunday’s win puts Brisbane (3-1) in second place on the ladder behind undefeated Port Adelaide, who enjoys his experience with the Gold Coast Hub.
