Pau 0-2 Paris Saint-Germain: the leaders of Ligue 1 enter the quarters of Coupe de France

Leandro Paredes and Pablo Sarabia were in goal while Paris Saint-Germain went into the last eight of the Coupe de France.

Paris Saint-Germain moved on to the Coupe de France quarter-finals with an ordinary 2-0 victory in Pau.

Neymar was not named on the team for the trip on the third level side, with Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria left on the bench for the visit to the Stade du Hameau.

However, neither was necessary as the leaders of Ligue 1 conveniently dismissed the pursuers of the Championnat National promotion with one goal in each half.

Leandro Paredes opened the scoring with only his second goal for the club after 25 minutes and Pablo Sarabia ensured the eight-minute progression in the second half.

PSG hadn’t really threatened when Paredes opened the scoring in a big way.

Mauro Icardi put Layvin Kurzawa’s cross on the path of the Argentine midfielder, who controlled brilliantly before launching a volley beyond Alexis Guendouz.

Kurzawa therefore gave up the chance to double the advantage as he threw himself on goal, but Sarabia made no mistakes after the restart.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting saw his effort unsuccessful since Mauro Icardi’s withdrawal blocked by Damon Bansais and Sarabia was there to convert to follow-up.

Pau pushed to try to go back in the contest, but a lack of avant-garde in the last third meant an unlikely return to the cards.

What does it mean? Welcome to the attack on the trio

Icardi has played all 90 minutes, but PSG coach Thomas Tuchel will certainly be excited to progress without having to use Neymar, Mbappe and Di Maria as a glory chaser on four fronts.

Kurzawa the creator

Former Monaco defender Kurzawa was excellent on the left for PSG. His superb cross scored the first goal and he failed to find the net by himself for a few centimeters.

PSG deal Growing shot

The only blemish for PSG’s performance was a knee injury to the right back Colin Dagba, who was forced to dismiss in the 70th minute in a possible blow to his defensive depth.

What’s next?

PSG, with a 10-point lead at the top of Ligue 1, will host Montpellier on Saturday at Parc des Princes.
