Sports collectible cards can often be of great value if you get a very rare one. According to TMZ Sports, one with two of the most important players in NBA history has sold for a staggering amount.
A rare Michael Jordan and LeBron James card with an NBA logo patch and pieces of shirts worn by both players was sold for $ 900,000 by Ken Goldin of Goldin Auctions in a private sale earlier this week. It is now officially the most expensive basketball card ever.
The card was part of the Upper Deck “Exquisite Collection” of 2003-2004 and includes real NBA patches of worn shirts worn by James and Jordan. While there’s a Bulls logo on the Jordan side of that card, it’s actually a piece of his Wizards shirt, according to Yahoo Sports. What makes it so rare is that it is the only card of its kind that exists worldwide. The $ 900,000 price tag beats a 1969-1970 Topps Lew Alcindor card sold for around $ 500,000 in 2016. The card is now also the most expensive merchandise with James or Jordan, according to TMZ.
“We are proud to report that this sale almost doubled that price and joins the famous 1952 Topps Mickey Mouse starter card and the classic T206 Honus Wagner card as the only collectible cards to reach this level,” said Goldin.
The James and Jordan card is an absolute rarity and it is truly incredible that it surpassed the Alcindor by $ 400,000. The owner who bought the card must certainly be proud and will probably want to show such a card.
