Manchester United joined the game to sign the Leicester City striker Islami Slimani, reportedly.
Aston Villa is believed to have an interest in international Algeria, which is currently on loan at Monaco’s Ligue 1.
Villa has already made one forward this month – taking Mbwana Samatta from Genk – but he wants another one before next Friday’s deadline.
Slimani is enjoying a fruitful campaign in Monaco with seven goals and as many assists in 13 appearances.
There is no recall clause Leicester can exercise to bring Slimani back from his loan period early and it was reported Thursday that the French club had rejected a request to send him back to King Power Stadium to make a move elsewhere.
But that doesn’t seem to have deterred United, who may be willing to part ways with £ 4 million to sign the 31-year-old as cover for the rest of the campaign.
Fans of the Old Trafford club, however, are not convinced and here’s how they reacted to the news:
@Holmelands: An attacker is the least of the # MUFC problems! With their lack of creativity, you could put Romero on top for what matters!
@HunterClockz: So I can say I’m alive when my club was trying to sign Odion Ighalo / Islam Slimani on loan …. What a joke. The club is dying before my eyes.
@JayMac___: Since #mufc stands for Slimani and Ighalo. Fortunately this rum in my hand is very strong. This walk outside Vs Wolves could be fantastic.
@ N4lum: Slimani ?? Oghalo ?? Tevez ?? What is it with these pranksters who pinch (without disrespecting these players) …!
@ Luffers70: It must be an April Fool’s joke or something, but read that #MUFC made an offer for Islam Slimani on loan #transferwindow #WoodwardOut.
@JacobEdgeLucas: United tied to 31-year-old striker Islam Slimani, can this season go better?
@ AndyWarby84: It shows how much more serious it is in Man Utd when we are connected to loan movements for Slimani and Ighalo. Woodward and Matt Judge must be removed from handling any transfers with immediate effect. Embarrassing to assist.
@Calabastu: Even OGS is better than they are now … United has definitely hit bottom if these are its goals.
