Karl Geiger has kept his chances for a top position in the New Year’s competition. The 26-year-old ski jumper from Oberstdorf is in third place after the first round of the traditional event.

Under a blue sky in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Norwegian Marius Lindvik leads ahead of Dawid Kubacki from Poland. The overall leader, Ryoyu Kobayashi from Japan, is one point behind Geiger in fourth place.

Constantin Schmid is the second best German sixth, triple world champion Markus Eisenbichler is 14th. Lindvik set the ten-year-old hill record of the Swiss Simon Ammann at 143.5 meters. In Stephan Leyhe and Pius Paschke two other athletes from the team of national coach Stefan Horngacher reached the second round of the top 30 jumpers.
