An original departure. The riders will start the Pont du Gard on which they have already passed this Tuesday during the 16th stage Nîmes-Nîmes. A beautiful and original scenery. Traffic on the Roman aqueduct is usually prohibited. This is the first time that the Tour borrows this architectural masterpiece dating from the first century, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Be careful with the borders. The first part of the course only in the valley will be subject to the phenomenon of borders to Vaison-la-Romaine. The coast of the-Rochette-du-Buis (4th category) located halfway will probably not be conducive to a first explanation between favorites even if the heat could alter the organisms. Escapes could however take advantage of this relief especially as a last difficulty the Pass of the Sentinel (3rd category with 5.2 km to 5.4%) will arrive 8.5 km from the finish.

Last opportunity. If the peloton still manages to arrive together, the avenues of Gap will be the last opportunity for sprinters to engage in an explanation at a very high speed. In 2015, Peter Sagan was ahead of the line at Gap by Ruben Plaza.
