“We have little time and we need to add”

Gabri Garcia lived his first day as coach of Olot yesterday. Training and then presentation. He did so with the approval of the president, Joan Agustí, and also of the technical secretary, Sergi Raset. The two highlighted his training as a player and also as a coach at La Masia, a football identity that they hope will move him to the pitch. He arrives with a clear declaration of intent: “I will do everything in my power and dedicate as much time as possible. The commitment with the entity will be maximum ».

Words of gratitude for trust, on the one hand. And also of optimism, convinced to turn the corner on the bad sports dynamics of the team, add three by three, and climb positions as soon as possible. But with a realistic twist. “The goal right now is to get out of the area where we are. Then we’ll see. Talking about beyond that would not help us gain anything. More ambitious was expressed by Joan Agustí, who wants to burn the cartridges to reach a category that the club “does not suffer so much financially”, referring to a possible promotion. All in all it is a challenge and there is little time for adaptation. In this sense, the new coach of Olot admitted that a collective effort will be needed to make this period as short as possible. He himself preached by example and showed to know in detail both the philosophy of Olot and his hobby or the work of Raúl Garrido, of which he declared himself an admirer.

On the project, Gabri explained that he is attracted to clubs with “character and identity” and was predisposed that his time in the land of volcanoes serves to grow the idea that has been developing the entity for years. The style, as he insisted, will be the same, with the desire to generate play and with the ball as a means to become a competitive team.

In this task, the coach will work side by side with Miquel Àngel Muñoz, the new second coach and also coordinator of grassroots football. Also added is Héctor Simón, the squad captain, who has been out of action since the start of the season. All three and also with the aim of facilitating the adaptation to the new ways of doing, has bet by the continuity of the rest of the technical body: Ferran Joanmiquel like physical trainer; goalkeeping coach Pol Fresneda; or analyst Jordi Martín. Albert Jorquera will not be there. Bescanó, who had accompanied Gabri to all the benches, has preferred to continue his adventure at the head of the Andorran Santa Coloma project.

Without much time to lose, this Sunday he will direct his first match from the bench. It will be against Nastic, the leader of the category. A complicated rival, but that if he got the three points would be a breath of fresh air for this new project.

Complicated market

The club will try to take advantage of these last days of the market to strengthen the staff. With Alan Baró and Carles Mas injured, plus the departure of Lluís Aspar, one of the team’s weaknesses is the central axis. But not the only area you want to try to shore up. Also the attack, and in this sense is close to closing the arrival of Pol Prats, an end that would be ceded by Nastic.
