New South Wales star Damien Cook revealed the brutal but hilarious moment he realized what State of Origin was all about.
It was just before the 2018 Interstate series that the South Sydney whore was selected for his blues debut.
Also among the selection sheets was his Rabbitohs teammate Dane Gagai, although he would be on the opposite side of the field for Queensland.

Cook loved his selection and Gagai’s too.
But when he tried to reach his close partner, there was radio silence.
“I think I learned that from gags. When I was selected (for the first time) on Origin and saw that he was selected, I wrote him “Congratulations” and he never wrote back, “Cook told Big Sports Breakfast Radio.
“That’s where I learned it was, so me and Gags kept it that way, and so it is with the other players I play with at Souths.

“I’m proud of these guys (South Sydney), especially Jaydn Su’a and Corey Allan this year, but we’ll talk about that after Wednesday night.”
The story was told when Cook was asked about an argument with Su’a during last week’s Origin game.
At one point of heated competition, it appeared that Su’a had pushed Cook in the face after a duel.
“He’ll be my teammate in another three days,” laughed Cook.
League legend Laurie Daley announced that he also found out the hard way about Origin’s tough “buddy against buddy” mentality.
It was his then Raiders captain, Mal Meninga, who berated him for becoming Origin enemies.
“I don’t think I understood when I first played Origin either,” said Daley.

“I remember my first Origin game when I thought I was going to mark Mal Meninga, he’s my club captain. Mal scored four tries in that game and I had marks all over my chest.
“I remember seeing him before the game and you know when you go do that old g’day buddy – he just bowed his head.
“Wouldn’t recognize me and immediately I knew something was completely different.”
