Aosta Bugs Eye Spots in Italy’s Baseball5 Youth National Team for European Championships

Italy Youth Baseball5 Squad Gathers in Rimini Ahead of European Championships

The Italian Youth baseball5 national team convened in Rimini for a weekend training camp as preparations reach their final stage for the upcoming European Championships in Policoro, Matera, scheduled for November. The squad selection process involves evaluation across remaining sessions before coaching staff finalize the definitive eight-player roster for the continental tournament.

Aosta Prospects Eye Final Roster Selection

Three athletes from the Aosta Bugs are vying for selection among the eight roster spots representing Italy at the European tournament: Pierfrancesco Bernardi, Gabriel Quintana, and Martina Ganili. Technical staff evaluated the trio following their performances at the “Cuore delle Alpi” tournament in Aosta at the end of August.

Squad availability was affected for the Rimini training camp held on Saturday, October 26, and Sunday, October 27. Only Bernardi participated in the weekend sessions, while Quintana remained sidelined due to a malleolus fracture sustained during the Aosta tournament. Ganili is scheduled to resume training in early October.

Coaching Staff Outlook on Recovery and Timeline

Maurizio Balla, head of the Italian technical staff, noted the approaching deadline for naming the starting lineup. “We are reaching the final stages for the choice of starters,” Balla stated, expressing confidence in the three Aosta athletes’ prospects following their showing at the late-August tournament in Aosta.

Regarding player fitness, technical staff expect Quintana to return to action by late October, contingent upon his rehabilitation progress. Meanwhile, Ganili and Bernardi will compete for their respective roster positions during the final two training camps remaining before the European Championships open in Policoro.
