The tenth annual B-Day sports and solidarity festival will take place on Saturday, October 10, at the Carraia baseball field inside the Checchi sports complex in Capannori, Italy. Operating under the banner “Dieci anni insieme” (Ten Years Together), the milestone event brings together the DRK Capannori Baseball teams and the Lucca Special Olympics team for a full day of inclusive sport and community programming.
A Decade of Breaking Down Barriers Through Sport
Marking its tenth year since founding in 2016, the B-Day festival is organized by DRK Sport A.S.D. with widespread civic backing. The event holds official patronage from the City of Lucca, the municipalities of Capannori, Altopascio, Porcari, Villa Basilica, and Montecarlo, alongside the Italian Baseball Softball Federation (FIBS), the Lucca Special Olympics team, the National Association of Sports Veterans (Gino Dovichi section of Lucca), and the Lions Club Antiche Valli Lucchesi.
On-field activities run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., featuring integrated baseball drills and games designed to include athletes of all abilities.
Schedule, Entertainment, and Community Activities
Following the morning sports sessions, athletes and coaching staff will gather for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Children’s entertainment, including face painting and games led by Morellina, runs through 2:30 p.m., while entertainer Daniele Bonino provides ongoing programming for guests of all ages throughout the day.
Afternoon sports activities resume from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., organizers will host the official athlete awards ceremony, highlighting the participants and teams.
As evening approaches, the schedule shifts to cultural and social events starting at 6:30 p.m., featuring an aperitif and a tango exhibition titled “Tangheri per una volta” performed by Jenny and Tommy. The day concludes with a reservation-only Giropizza dinner beginning at 8:00 p.m.
