“I glaube, ich befinde mich noch im Gewöhnungsprozess,” Franz Wagner told reporters in comments translated from German media days availability, describing the adjustment period. He noted that Moritz Wagner spent three weeks in Orlando earlier in the offseason, but living and training entirely alone afterward felt distinctly unusual after years of constant proximity.

Reflecting on Five Years Together

Despite the initial solitude, Franz Wagner emphasized a strong sense of gratitude for the half-decade they spent as teammates at the professional level. Playing alongside an older sibling provided a unique support system through rookie campaigns, roster turnovers, and playoff pushes.

“Natürlich ist es ein Wechselbad der Gefühle – ich liebe es, mit meinem Bruder zu spielen, wir haben hier in Orlando gemeinsam viele tolle Erinnerungen gesammelt,” Franz Wagner said. He added that five years is an exceptionally long tenure for siblings to share a single NBA roster, expressing appreciation for the franchise and staff members who made the joint stint possible.

New Roles and Individual Focus

The separation marks a new chapter for both players on the court. In Brooklyn, Moritz Wagner is expected to step into an expanded frontcourt rotation behind center Day’Ron Sharpe. Meanwhile, Franz Wagner enters the new campaign looking to shoulder a primary offensive burden for Orlando after a productive yet abbreviated prior season in which he averaged 20.6 points across 34 appearances. To prioritize his physical readiness and long-term health, Franz Wagner skipped the summer national team buildup with the German basketball federation.

While acknowledging the difficulty of the change, Franz Wagner also pointed to the silver linings of branching out independently within the league. He noted that the new circumstances naturally create space to forge closer connections with other teammates and establish new routines away from the court.
