At the Italian Field Archery Championships concluded on Sunday, September 20, young archers Gilles Carlin and Gabriel Patrizio secured silver medals for the Arcieri Grand Paradis. The three-day national competition spanned two distinct locations in the Sannio region of Campania, utilizing the Camposauro plateau in Vitulano for qualification and elimination rounds before staging the medal finals at the Rocca dei Rettori in downtown Benevento.
National Championship Venue and Competition Scale
Organized by the Arcieri della Stella di Avellino with backing from the FITARCO regional committee of Campania and Coldiretti Benevento, the tournament drew approximately 400 competitors representing 135 club teams from across Italy. The entry list featured top specialists across age brackets ranging from youth divisions to master classes. The national championships served as a final domestic test for several Italian national team athletes preparing to travel to Yankton, South Dakota, for the World Field Archery Championships.
Silver-Medal Performances for Arcieri Grand Paradis
Competing in the youth divisions, Gilles Carlin finished second in the Allievo (Cadet) recurve bow category following the 72-arrow qualification and ranking rounds. Carlin posted a total of 334 points, trailing only Friulian archer Matteo Poiana of Cormons, who claimed the Italian national title with an exceptional score of 338 points. Gabriele Principato of Reggio Emilia rounded out the podium with a bronze medal after scoring 323 points.
In the barebow division, Gabriel Patrizio also captured a silver medal for the Saint-Pierre club in the Ragazzi (Youth) class. Patrizio delivered a 72-arrow total of 255 points, finishing behind gold medalist Leonardo Belgrano of Arcieri Imperiesi, who posted 271 points. Paolo Sperandio of Perugia secured the bronze medal with 240 points.
Additional Club Results and Team Standings
The strong showing for the Arcieri Grand Paradis delegation was further reinforced by veteran competitor Roberto Gaspari in the Master compound division. Gaspari finished fifth in his category with a 72-arrow score of 376, placing 20th overall and missing a spot in the semifinals by a margin of just two points. In the team competition, the Arcieri delle Alpi di Rivoli successfully defended their national team title from the previous year while also capturing the women’s team gold medal.
