The race for the final qualification spots at the WTA Finals is coming down to the wire, with Czech tennis players Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková in prime position to join the year-end elite. As the tour pivots to the Asian hardcourt swing, recent shifts in the WTA Race standings and injuries among top contenders have dramatically altered the battle for the final eight.
WTA Race Standings and Qualification Overview
Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka have already secured their berths for the season-ending championship, which begins on November 8 in Indian Wells. Joining them near the top of the leaderboard are American standouts Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff alongside French Open champion Mirra Andreeva, all holding comfortable cushions over the chasing pack.
Further down the standings, Elina Svitolina holds the sixth position with 4,819 points, maintaining a 909-point lead over her compatriot Marta Kostyuk. Meanwhile, Linda Nosková sits eighth in the standings with 4,244 points. Because Nosková captured a Wimbledon title earlier in the season, WTA qualification rules stipulate that she only needs to finish inside the top 20 of the year-end points race to lock up her spot, making her qualification all but mathematically certain.
Kostyuk’s Injury Absence Opens the Door
The scramble for the remaining qualification places intensified following a punishing summer schedule for Marta Kostyuk.

The 24-year-old Ukrainian officially withdrew from the upcoming China Open in Beijing due to a wrist injury, leaving her return to the tour this season highly uncertain.”
Świątek Stumbles After Strong Hardcourt Surge
With Kostyuk sidelined, Iga Świątek emerges as Karolína Muchová’s primary challenger for the remaining spots. Świątek endured a difficult first half of the season before experiencing a resurgence in North America, capturing the title at Toronto and reaching the semifinals in Cincinnati to thrust herself back into contention for her sixth WTA Finals appearance.
However, the Polish star failed to capitalize on that momentum at Flushing Meadows. After breezes through her opening three matches in straight sets, Świątek appeared poised to march deep into the tournament. In her fourth-round clash against China’s Zheng Qinwen, Świątek raced out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set before suffering a sudden collapse, eventually bowing out 5-7, 3-6 and collecting only 240 ranking points from New York.
Asiatic Swing Showdown in Beijing and Wuhan
Entering the Asian swing, Świątek sits 816 points behind Muchová in the race for the final guaranteed qualification slots. Both Muchová and Świątek feature on the entry lists for the upcoming WTA 1000 tournaments in Beijing, which gets underway on Wednesday, and Wuhan.
With Nosková virtually assured of her place under the major champion provision, Muchová currently occupies the seventh position with 4,410 points. The upcoming weeks in China will determine whether the Czech virtuoso can hold off Świątek and secure her trip to the season finale.
