Italy finished first in the medal table at the World Field Archery Championships in Yankton, capturing 16 total medals, including seven golds, five silvers, and four bronzes, ahead of the host United States and Great Britain. The competition concluded on Sunday, September 27, marking a dominant international campaign for the Italian national squad across multiple disciplines.
Italian Squad Dominates Yankton Field Championships
The Italian delegation established its supremacy early in the Yankton tournament, outpacing both American and British competitors. Out of the 16 medals secured by the team, silver finishes highlighted several fierce team battles against the host nation. The event served as a major benchmark for international field archery, testing athletes across complex terrain and variable distances in the United States.
Michea Godano Claims Two Team Silvers
Among the standout performers for the Italian team was Michea Godano, who secured two silver medals in team competition during the first of two world events hosted in Yankton. Godano partnered with Simone Barbieri and Matteo Borsani in the men’s team event. The Italian trio advanced past France with a 62-59 victory in the semifinal before falling to the United States in a dramatic shoot-off. Following a 53-53 tie through regular scoring, the American squad edged the Italians 17-14 in the tiebreaker to claim the gold.
Godano added a second silver medal in the compound mixed team division alongside Giulia Di Nardo. The Italian pair defeated Germany 92-85 in the semifinal round. In the gold medal match, the United States once again proved to be a difficult hurdle, defeating the Italian duo 91-87 to secure the world title.
Transition to the 3D World Championships
Immediately following the conclusion of the field championships, Yankton hosted the World 3D Archery Championships. Godano remained on site to compete in the second major international tournament, which runs through October 4. He is joined in the men’s division by teammates Federico Pagnoni and Jesse Sut. The Italian women’s 3D roster features Elisa Baldo, Maddalena Marcaccini, and Irene Franchini as the national federation continues its global competition schedule.
