Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren will not report for the team’s media day or the opening of training camp amid an unresolved contract impasse, according to reports by ESPN. The restricted free agent has declined a five-year, 2億ドル fully guaranteed contract offer from the franchise as the two sides work against an upcoming deadline.
The immediate attention turns to an October 2 deadline regarding a qualifying offer. Duren must decide whether to accept a one-year, approximately 960万ドル qualifying offer for the upcoming season, which would pave the way for him to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027.
Front Office Perspective and Roster Impact
Speaking to reporters on media day, Pistons President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon addressed the uncertainty surrounding Duren. Langdon acknowledged the vital contributions Duren has made to the team while noting the limits of front-office control in ongoing negotiations.
“He has been a major part of our success and will continue to play a key role going forward,” Langdon said during media availability. “However, I cannot control how he or his camp decide to move.”
Staff HC J.B. Bickerstaff and Cade Cunningham have maintained consistent communication with Duren throughout his absence from team facilities.
Statistical Production and Playoff Adjustment
The contract standoff comes on the heels of an individual campaign for Duren. As the team’s starting center, he averaged 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting an efficient 65.0 percent from the field. That performance earned him both an All-Star selection and a spot on the All-NBA Third Team.

Despite his regular-season production, Duren’s production shifted during the postseason. While he maintained averages of 8.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 blocks per contest in the playoffs, his scoring dipped to 10.2 points per game—ranking fourth on the team—and his field goal percentage dropped to 51.4 percent.
Contract Decisions and Next Steps
With training camps officially underway across the league, the focal point for Detroit remains bridging the gap with Duren. The upcoming October 2 decision window for the qualifying offer serves as the next hard checkpoint for both the Pistons and Duren's representatives as they negotiate the terms of a potential long-term extension.
