The archery facility in Crispiano, Italy, has entered its operational phase, launching a multi-purpose project designed to integrate professional sports, tourism, and cultural events throughout the year. Mayor Luca Lopomo announced that the administration is transitioning the site from a construction project into a sustainable hub for athletes and the local community.
Arcieri dello Ionio to Manage Sporting Activities
The municipality has granted a one-year concession for both indoor and outdoor sporting activities to the Arcieri dello Ionio society. This agreement was reached through a system of individual demand services to ensure the facility’s immediate use for training and competition.
To introduce the facility to the public, an Open Day is scheduled for October 11. This event will showcase the range of available activities, including competitive archery, general training, and introductory programs for beginners.
Hospitality and Tourism Strategy for International Athletes
A central component of the facility’s long-term strategy is the development of a “foresteria” (guest house) and an on-site bar. The municipal administration has directed the heritage manager to prepare a multi-year tender for the management of these services.
Once completed, the guest house is intended to operate as a B&B for tourists and as a dedicated residence for national and international athletic delegations. Mayor Lopomo stated that the accommodation will support archery-specific camps, training retreats, and competitions, expanding the facility’s utility beyond local use.
Economic Sustainability and Facility Maintenance
The administration aims for the complex to become economically self-sufficient. According to Mayor Lopomo, the goal is for the revenue generated by the hosted activities to cover the costs of utilities, general management, maintenance, and the upkeep of the surrounding green areas.
Lopomo noted that the primary challenge is no longer the physical construction of the work, but the creation of a management model that ensures long-term functionality and financial viability.
Multi-Use Capabilities and Regional Logistics
While archery remains the primary focus, the municipality intends to use the space for non-sporting events. The facility’s layout allows for cultural initiatives, concerts, and other significant public gatherings, particularly during the summer months.
The mayor highlighted the site’s logistical advantages, citing its size, available parking, and road connections. Lopomo asserted that the structure’s logistical characteristics are virtually unmatched within the province of Taranto.
The project now moves into its second phase, focusing on the continuous operation of the site to attract visitors and create new opportunities for the town of Crispiano.
