Local Women’s Tennis Team Secures Top 10 Finish at French National Championships

National Tournament Run in Angers

The women’s tennis squad representing their local club, the Aude department, and the Occitanie region competed in the national phase of the Raquettes de la Fédération Française de Tennis. The event took place last weekend in Angers, replacing standard weekend routines with competitive matches on clay.

The team advanced through regional stages following an initial departmental victory in Gruissan and a regional qualification win in La Grande-Motte. In the national tournament at Angers, the players secured an eighth-place finish out of 32 competing teams nationwide.

Roster and Coaching Staff

The roster for the national tournament featured Jessie Devoto, Melinda Martin, Laïla El Khiat, and Fanny Gary-Bobo. Team management noted that regular captain Jade Olivier stepped aside for the final phase due to an expected child, with Jessie Devoto taking over leadership duties.

Coaches Paul Ledogar and Nicolas Gary-Bobo guided the team through its regional and national fixtures. Preparation for the summer campaign included a three-week training block directed by manager Marc Paupière.

Tournament Exit and Future Outlook

The team’s run concluded in the quarterfinals against an opponent from the Île-de-France region, which subsequently advanced to the tournament final. Coaches pointed to the result as a strong indicator of development for women’s tennis within the local department, acknowledging local sponsors whose backing facilitated the trip to Angers.
