Jammu and Kathua athletes dominated the inter-district union territory-level soft tennis and Gatka championships held across venues in Jammu and Nagarota, showcasing top-tier talent across age divisions from under-14 to under-19. Approximately 150 competitors from various districts across the region gathered for the Saturday competitions, which aimed to highlight grassroots sports development and youth engagement in traditional and modern disciplines.
Soft Tennis Competitions Showcase Regional Talent at MA Stadium
The MA Stadium in Jammu hosted the soft tennis events, where players contested medals across multiple age categories. In the under-14 boys’ division, Aman Javed of Srinagar claimed the gold medal. Abdullah Irfan secured the silver medal, while Vihal Singh of Jammu and Mujtaba Hassan of Anantnag shared the bronze medals.
Competition in the under-17 division saw Harikesh Dutt of Jammu capture the gold medal, leaving Devik Kotwal to take the silver. In the under-19 division, Mahivinder Singh of Jammu earned the gold medal, and Imtiyaz Khan of Poonch finished with the silver medal.
Kathua and Jammu Dominate Gatka Events in Nagrota
Concurrently, the Gatka competitions took place at the Khel Gaon in Nagrota, featuring traditional martial arts disciplines. In the under-17 fary stick individual category, Prabhjot Singh of Kathua emerged as the winner. The Kathua squad also claimed first place in the team category.
Jammu competitors maintained a strong presence in single stick events. Jammu secured the gold medal in the under-17 single stick individual category. In the under-19 single stick team category, Samba earned the gold medal, while Jammu took home the silver.
Additional individual honors went to Arshdeep Singh of Jammu, who won gold in the individual category, and Sarvpreet Singh of Kathua, who secured gold in the fary stick category.
