The Cando intellectual disability basketball team gathered 12 athletes at the Koshigaya City General Gymnasium on September 27 for a practice session that tested teamwork and camaraderie amidst persistent seasonal rain. Despite the humid weather outside, the indoor venue offered a reliable space for the organization’s drills and scrimmage games.
Gymnasium Setup and Routine Drills
Athletes began arriving for the 13:00 local time session and immediately pitched in with court preparations. Early arrivals coordinated the floor-cleaning duties, calling out across the gymnasium to organize the task before opening drills. Head Coach Taku led the team through the opening protocol, supported by Vice Captain R, who called out instructions to start the physical warm-ups.
The workout progressed through standard basketball fundamentals, including running exercises, warm-up stretching, and a series of dribble-shooting drills. Players then moved into two-man passing sequences before splitting into red and green squads for a competitive mini-game.
Milestones and Community Connections
During a break in the mini-game action, athletes gathered in a circle for a presentation led by teammate Ken, who shared treats with the group to celebrate his birthday month. The team marked the occasion by singing together before returning to the court for a final round of cleanup and gym floor maintenance.
Management released an updated schedule for upcoming autumn sessions following facility adjustments. The team noted that the Koshigaya West Special Support School gymnasium, a frequent practice site, remains closed through October due to ongoing seismic reinforcement construction work. Consequently, upcoming weekend practices will relocate to alternative municipal venues.
Upcoming Practice Schedule
- October 10, 09:00 local time — Koshigaya City General Gymnasium
- October 31, 09:00 local time — Koshigaya South Gymnasium
- November 14, 13:00 local time — Koshigaya North Gymnasium
Cando organizers issued an open invitation to local athletic clubs and disability sports organizations interested in scheduling exchange events or practice matches. The team accommodates groups with fewer than five players for joint scrimmages. Interested teams can connect through the organization’s official social media channels or community comment boards.
