Meins Avenida captured the Copa de Castilla y León Femenina ‘Memorial Carlos Sainz Esteban’ title on Saturday after defeating Recoletas Zamora 78-57 in the final at the Polideportivo Municipal Antonio Sánchez in Béjar, powered by an 18-point performance from tournament MVP Sara Roumy.
A Decisive Opening Quarter
Meins Avenida seized control of the contest right from the opening tip. Under the direction of Raquel Romo, the Salamanca squad overwhelmed Recoletas Zamora with sharp offensive execution and suffocating defensive intensity. That early surge yielded a commanding 21-4 lead after the first ten minutes, forcing Zamora into an uphill battle for the remainder of the afternoon.
Zamora’s Counter and the Halftime Margin
Recoletas Zamora regrouped during the second period and found better offensive rhythm. Zamora edged the second quarter 20-19, but Meins Avenida’s earlier buffer kept the game comfortably in hand. The scoreboard read 40-24 in favor of Salamanca as both teams headed to the locker rooms for halftime.
Maintaining Control After Intermission
Any hopes of a second-half comeback were quickly dashed when play resumed. Meins Avenida outscored Zamora 20-14 in the third period, stretching the advantage to 60-38 heading into the final quarter. Though Zamora continued to compete and claimed the final frame 19-18, Salamanca comfortably managed the clock and secured the 78-57 victory.

Sara Roumy led all scorers for the champions with 18 points, earning 22 valuation credits along with the Caja Rural de Salamanca MVP award. Emma Melina Johansson contributed 16 points and 17 valuation credits for Meins Avenida, while Claudia Soriano added 10 points. For Recoletas Zamora, Katiana Benítez led the scoring effort with 15 points, followed by Ana Pérez Relancio with 14.
Ceremony and Commemoration
Following the final buzzer, tournament officials presided over the trophy presentation at the Béjar venue. Meins Avenida hoisted the regional championship trophy, while Recoletas Zamora collected the runner-up award. Óscar Castañeda Robles presented recognition to Béjar Mayor Antonio Cámara and Club Deportivo Baloncesto Béjar President Alberto García for their organizational support.
The Federación de Baloncesto de Castilla y León also observed its annual tribute to Carlos Sainz Esteban, the federation’s former president who gives the memorial tournament its name. In his honor, Óscar Castañeda Robles presented a floral arrangement to María Sainz Gutiérrez, daughter of Carlos Sainz Esteban, celebrating his enduring legacy in regional basketball.
