At the 2026 World Judo Kata and Veterans Championships in Sarajevo, the Judo Kwai Amiatino club from Piancastagnaio secured another major milestone on the international stage. Defending world champions Cristina Magini and Alessandra D’Amario, alongside teammate Francesco Porcelloni, delivered standout performances for the club during the tournament held from September 20 to September 25.
Sarajevo World Championships Draw 1,500 Athletes
The international competition brought together over 1,500 athletes representing 60 countries. For the Judo Kwai Amiatino club—a training center operating out of viale Gramsci in Piancastagnaio that has worked with children, youths, and adults for more than 60 years—sending competitors to global events remains a regular achievement.
The club fielded three athletes in Sarajevo: Francesco Porcelloni in the men’s division, alongside reigning world champions Cristina Magini and Alessandra D’Amario in the women’s division.
Cristina Magini Claims Fourth World Title Despite Injury
Cristina Magini captured her fourth world title in the women's division, winning four difficult matches against competitors representing France, Estonia, and Canada. Magini entered the tournament managing an injury, adding to the challenge of the division.
Following her victory, the world champion dedicated her medal to her club in Piancastagnaio and her family, specifically thanking her partner and coach, Marco Gigli.
Alessandra D’Amario Secures Silver After Hard-Fought Matches
Alessandra D’Amario earned a silver medal after competing against teams from Spain and Portugal. Holding three prior world titles, D’Amario led her decisive final match into the final minutes before conceding victory to the representative from New Caledonia.
In the men's division, Francesco Porcelloni placed third after competing in a pool that featured opponents from Georgia and Kazago.

Massimo Zamperini, president of the Judo Kwai Amiatino club, addressed the team’s ongoing success, noting that the athletes’ consistency continues to impress the organization.
