At the penultimate stage of the South American Games, the Colombian delegation secured a brilliant finish by capturing 10 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 12 bronze medals, cementing its position in the upper tiers of the regional podium. As of the September 25 cutoff, Colombia firmly holds third place in the overall medal standings with an accumulated total of 189 preseas, comprising 68 golds, 61 silvers, and 60 bronzes.
This surge near the close of the multi-sport event followed an intense stretch of competition that included strong performances in track and field, archery, tennis, karate, and taekwondo. Earlier in the calendar, standout efforts such as Ronal Longa’s victory in the 100-meter dash and Stefany Cuadrado’s track cycling triumphs laid the groundwork for the delegation’s late medal rush.
Archery and Track and Field Lead Gold Rush
The penultimate competition day saw archery emerge as a major gold mine for the delegation. Jorge Enríquez claimed the recurve individual male title, while Ana María Rendón topped the recurve individual female bracket. In the compound divisions, Pablo Gómez and Sara López took the individual male and female gold medals respectively, before combining forces with teammates to secure the mixed compound team event.

Athletics added further momentum to the Colombian tally. The nation swept multiple relay events, winning the men’s 4×100m relay, the women’s 4×100m relay, and the women’s 4×400m relay. Mayra Gaviria added another gold by winning the women’s hammer throw. On the tennis courts, Juan Sebastián Gómez and Cristian Rodríguez combined to capture the men’s doubles title.
Silver and Bronze Additions Across Martial Arts and Water Sports
Colombia’s silver medal count grew through technical and combat disciplines. Sebastián Arenas finished second in the men’s individual compound archery, and Alejandra Usquiano took silver in the women’s equivalent. In karate, Wendy Mosquera claimed silver in the women’s -68kg kumite. Taekwondo added two more second-place finishes via Daniela Quirama in the traditional individual poomsae and the mixed team freestyle poomsae squad.

The bronze medal haul spanned a wide array of venues. Archery contributors included Jagdeep Singh and Mariana Rodríguez in individual compound events. In athletics, Carlos Sanmartín finished third in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, the men’s 4×400m relay squad took bronze, and Maria Arboleda placed third in women’s high jump. Speed canoeing added several podium spots through Daniel Pacheco in the men’s C1 1000m, Madison Velásquez in the women’s C1 500m, Narem Molina in the women’s K1 200m, and a joint third-place finish for Velásquez and Pacheco in the mixed C2 500m event. Sofia Cárdenas (women’s -50kg kumite), Beatriz Arleo (women’s bodyboard), the mixed recognized poomsae taekwondo pair, Maria Paulina Pérez and Cristian Rodríguez (mixed tennis doubles), and Juliana Giraldo (women’s badminton singles) rounded out the day’s combat and racquet sports bronzes.
