Club Brugge delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Racing Genk in the Jupiler Pro League, asserting themselves with an intensity that left players and staff convinced of their championship credentials.
Intensity Fuels Blauw-Zwart Ambition
The emphatic win provided concrete evidence of the upward trajectory manager Stijn Leko and his squad have experienced in recent weeks. While early-season discussions centered on a team still finding its rhythm, the performance against Genk showcased a suffocating press and tactical discipline without the ball.

“We did really well today, especially without the ball,” striker Nicolo Tresoldi told reporters in the catacombs after the match. “Today we truly showed our intensity. If we do that, nobody in Belgium can stop us.”
Tresoldi noted that while Genk started brightly, the opening goal shifted momentum entirely in favor of the hosts. “Once we got that first goal, our confidence and intensity grew. And then we are difficult to stop here. We need to try and bring this to every match. It could have been 5-0 today.”
Teammate Joaquin Seys echoed those sentiments during a broadcast interview with DAZN. “With our pressing and intensity, we won this match relatively easily,” Seys stated.
Attention to Detail Pays Off on Set Pieces
Veteran defender Brandon Mechele provided a calm assessment of the team’s ongoing development, pointing to meticulous training ground preparations as the catalyst for their success.
“We have worked on the details that could be slightly better,” Mechele explained. “We are growing, and today it came out reasonably well. There are still things that can improve, but it is hopeful that everything is being picked up.”
Those specific training sessions translated directly onto the pitch in the form of two identical set-piece goals. First, Lee headed home a free-kick delivered by Seys. Just five minutes later, Mechele repeated the feat by scoring from a corner kick.
“That is trained for,” Mechele smiled. “Set pieces are becoming increasingly important. Jarne, the coach who works on that, will be very happy that we scored twice from his work.”
Defensive Resilience Strengthens Title Bid
Beyond the attacking output, securing another clean sheet highlighted a distinct tactical evolution compared to previous campaigns. Seys emphasized that the defensive foundation currently being laid is a primary takeaway from the early weeks of the season.
“We are defensively much better than last year,” Seys concluded. “We are really taking those points with us.”
With Club Brugge hovering just one point behind the summit of the standings, the squad’s collective belief continues to build as they prepare for the demanding stretch of fixtures ahead in the Belgian top flight.
