Archery and Shooting Qualifications Shape Early Action
Competition opened early for Vietnamese athletes as archery and shooting events got underway. From 6:00 to 9:30, national archers competed in the ranking rounds for the men’s recurve and women’s compound divisions, followed by the women’s recurve and men’s compound ranking rounds running from 10:30 to 14:00. In shooting, Lê Thị Mộng Tuyền, Phí Thanh Thảo, and Dương Hà My took to the firing line for the preliminary rounds of the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event, with the final scheduled for 12:00.
Badminton, Canoeing, and Combat Sports Highlights
On the badminton courts, three matches featured Vietnamese entries starting at 7:30. Nguyễn Thùy Linh faced an Indonesian opponent in the women’s singles, Nguyễn Hải Đăng squared off against a Tajik player in the men’s singles, and the men’s doubles pairing of Nguyễn Đình Hoàng and Trần Đình Mạnh contested their round of 16 match against Bangladesh. Canoeing featured three notable entries: Vu Le Thien Hai raced in the men’s 500m kayak singles semifinal, Hoang Thi Huong advanced to the women’s 500m kayak singles A final, and the duo of Hien Nam and Nguyen Hong Thai contested the mixed 500m canoe A final. In combat and precision sports, the men’s fencing team faced Uzbekistan in the round of 16 team event with Nguyễn Văn Quyết, Nguyễn Xuân Lợi, and Lê Văn Bang representing the squad. Hà Thị Linh also stepped into the ring for the women’s 60kg boxing qualification against an Uzbek opponent.

As the schedule shifted to the afternoon and evening sessions, team sports and athletics came into focus. The Vietnamese women’s handball team prepared for a matchup against South Korea at 15:30, following earlier tournament fixtures. On the running track, Lê Thị Cẩm Tú contested the women’s 200m semifinal at 17:55, while Hồ Trọng Mạnh Hùng closed out the evening’s field events by competing in the men’s triple jump final at 18:35.
