Men’s tennis world number one Jannik Sinner has formally withdrawn from the upcoming ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, citing an ongoing right knee inflammation that continues to sideline the Italian star. Sinner shared the update via social media on Friday, confirming he will not defend his title at the hard-court event scheduled from September 30 to October 6.
Sinner subsequently missed the US Open due to the same lingering knee issue, opting against taking unnecessary risks with his physical recovery.
“I wanted to send my warmest greetings to the Chinese fans,” Sinner said in a video statement released on his social channels. “I am sorry to announce that I will not be able to play in Beijing this year. My knee is not going the way I would like it to go, I am not yet ready to return to competition.”

Two crucial ATP Masters 1000 events loom on the horizon: the Rolex Shanghai Masters running from October 7 to 18, followed by the Paris Masters from October 31 to November 8. Sinner’s participation in those events remains unconfirmed as rehabilitation continues.
The marquee home event on the horizon for the Italian player is the ATP Finals, scheduled for November 15 to 22 in Turin, Italy.
